You Can DIY This Crazy Costume for Under $100
If you’re a super fan of Marvel’s Guardians of the Galaxy (oh, hey, Chris Pratt) or just want to be a shoe-in to snag the trophy at every costume contest you enter this year, we’ve got the bestest Halloween costume inspo for you ever: GROOT! This intelligent tree-like creature may look extremely impossible to recreate, but we found a realistic tutorial that is going to knock everyone’s spooky socks off.
Knowing that this costume was a total DIY moment is pretty unbelievable, but what’s even more incredible is that the entire extraterrestrial getup was made with materials that cost under $100. You couldn’t BUY a costume this awesome for that — if you can even find one for sale.
Calen Hoffman’s love for creating masterpieces from raw materials led him to this killer costume idea… plus the fact that Guardians of the Galaxy was just released.
Groot is made from a number of industrial materials, including tissues soaked in tacky glue, pipe insulation foam, foam sheets and model train scenery foliage from a hobby store. It took him about a month and a half to make, which means you’ve got time to start on your own. Oh, and because the base of the suit is Under Armor, it’s completely flexible. It can fold up and fit into a suitcase, tote bag or box for travel and/or storage.
