Use IKEA Bed Slats to Keep Your Personal Space Organized
Is it weird that organizing cluttered areas makes me happy? It’s just so refreshing to see all your things in their own special place :) But believe me; I’m no saint. Lately, my life has been a little messy, and I blame it on the fact that I live in a small room and have a queen-sized bed. There isn’t much room for furniture to help keep me organized, so I decided to take my organization to the walls! What I love about this IKEA storage hack is that it doesn’t involve building AT ALL. No need to install shelves or put boxes together — simply use screws to hold the bed slats in place and use a variety of over-the-door hooks to create organized storage.
For this hack, we used bed slats that are most commonly found with IKEA bed frames but are actually sold at many retailers. We paired the slats with tons of over-the-door hooks and containers to create a storage space that could work in the kitchen, bathroom, bedroom and office.
These wood slats aren’t light, so by the time you hang all your belongings on the hooks, this piece will definitely be heavy. Make sure you use wood screws and attach it to studs in the wall — you won’t want this piece falling down in the middle of the night.
Don’t have over-the-door hooks? Don’t fret! You don’t necessarily need them to get organized. We also used zip-ties to hold some pieces in place.
Give your storage pieces a splash of color with spray paint. Everything looks better in hot pink :)
In this version, we used the organizer to prep for the morning. There is nothing worse than waking up and not knowing what to wear or leaving the house without your sunglasses or headphones. (Pretty much me every day…)
Bedroom
Time to clean the clutter off of your bathroom counters and get it organized on the wall. Your BF or roommates will forever thank you.
Bathroom
Small kitchen spaces rejoice! This is the perfect hack for those who don’t have a lot of counter or cabinet space.
Kitchen
Last but not least, the office or craft den :) I find myself re-buying or never using certain craft supplies because they are tucked away in a box hidden behind another box on the top shelf of my closet. Use this IKEA hack to display your craft supplies and inspire you to be more creative every day!
