This DIY Advent Calendar Makes for the Ultimate Christmas Countdown
Who doesn’t love a good countdown? They’re all about building excitement and anticipation, from launching spaceships to ringing in a new year. Heck, there’s even a song or two written about them! We especially love the countdown to Christmas, which is why we’re partnering with Hershey to make a cute, colorful and most definitely tasty advent calendar (that ALSO doubles as a mini christmas tree). Check out the video to see how it’s done.

HERSHEY’S Kitchens Cookie Advent Calendar
- 1 cup softened butter
- 1 cup sugar
- 1 cup brown sugar
- 2 eggs
- 2 teaspoons vanilla
- 3 cups flour
- 1 teaspoon baking soda
- 2 teaspoons hot water
- ½ teaspoon salt
- 1 cup HERSHEY’S Kitchens Premier White Chips
- 1 cup HERSHEY’S Kitchens Semi-Sweet Chocolate Chips
- 1 cup rainbow sprinkles
First, gather your ingredients.
Preheat oven to 350 degrees Fahrenheit. Cream butter with the sugar and brown sugar. Then, beat in eggs and add vanilla, baking soda, salt and flour. Mix until smooth.
Fold in HERSHEY’S Kitchens Premier White Chips, HERSHEY’S Kitchens Semi-Sweet Chocolate Chips and sprinkles. Side note: These chips also make great little snacks, while you’re baking. :)
Place one-inch diameter balls of dough on cookie sheet. Bake for 8-10 minutes and let cool. Set aside while you make the advent calendar. Look how colorful they are!
Advent Calendar Materials:
- cookies
- foil
- white paper
- metallic paper
- scissors
- pencil
- pen
- tape
- needle
- string
Pull together all your materials. It’s always good to be prepared!
First off, make the HERSHEY’S KISSES shaped cone. Rose gold is so HOT right now, we couldn’t resist! Cut one circle out of white paper and cut a larger circle out of metallic paper. Cut slits into each circle. Next, form a cone with the white paper and secure with tape. Wrap the metallic paper around the white paper cone. Secure cone with tape. Wrap the bottom of the metallic cone around the bottom of the white cone and tape.
Make your little tags out of white paper. The wavier the better — it adds more character! Label the tags with numbers from 1-25.
Thread some string through the point of the cone to make a loop. Tie the ends together, and then, tuck the numbered tag into the cone.
Make the bottom to keep the cookies snug by tracing the bottom of the cone on white paper. Draw three rectangles around the circle. (These will be the tabs that help secure the bottom of the cone.) Cut out.
Next, wrap cookies in foil to keep them fresh and place inside cone.
Tape the bottom to the HERSHEY’S KISSES shaped cone. You’re done!
Look how the calendar can double as a Christmas tree. The ultimate 2-in-1! Plus, it’s PERFECT for a tiny living space.
Now that’s some tasty inspiration.
It’s the final countdown… but best to start with number one!
