With only two weeks until Thanksgiving, it's officially time to devour all things pumpkin, including desserts, breads, and adult beverages. After all, this autumn goodness won't roll around again for another year. But why limit your pumpkin obsession to only what's edible when this seasonal staple can also take center stage in your holiday decor? Our DIY pumpkin vase — complete with festive fall flower arrangement — is the perfect hostess gift for all those get-togethers you have coming up on your calendar. And of course, you'll want to reserve one or two for yourself.
To get started, you'll need a medium-sized pumpkin and a bunch of your favorite fall flowers. Don't forget a sharp knife and a large spoon to hollow out the pumpkin.
There's no need to make the hole of the pumpkin that large either. The smaller it is, the easier it will be for the bouquet to stay together and upright.
For the floral arrangement, you'll want to start off with a base of greenery. We used a mix of green hues and textures to give this bouquet some life.
Next, add in your filler flower. These small white buds help warm up the dark, moody vibes of the bouquet.
To fill things out, add your focal flowers throughout the bouquet. Keep spinning the arrangement in your hand to make sure every section is getting some love.
Then finish off this arrangement with extra pops of color and texture.
Use floral wire to hold everything together. Then add water to your pumpkin and set the flowers in their new home.
Play around with the sizes of each pumpkin and bouquet. Maybe even go crazy and hollow out a gourd!
You can set them on your mantel or use them as a centerpiece on your Thanksgiving table.
Pro tip: When planning your arrangement, use contrasting colors to really make it pop. Some fall-inspired combinations we love are maroon and gold, deep blue/green and orange, and purple and peach.
