How to Hack Rihanna’s $3,300 Watercolor Athleisure Outfit for WAY Less
While we were out at our watercolored Easter brunch rocking our floral printed wardrobe, Rihanna surprised us all in a rainbow pastel cashmere track suit.
When we saw this comfy masterpiece, we thought, “Hey – why didn’t I think of wearing that?!” And guess what! You totally can, because it’s 100 percent DIY-able. No need to trek out to Barney’s for the matching track suit that totals $3,308 — instead, pick up a white sweatshirt and sweatpants from an affordable separates store like H&M, and give them a watercolored makeover.
Materials + Tools:
— white sweatshirt and sweatpants
— fabric dye (we used Dye-na-Flow)
— foam brush
— water
Instructions:
1. Dunk the sweatshirt and sweatpants into water to get them completely wet.
2. Mix fabric dye with water to create a watery/pastel dye.
3. Use a foam brush to paint all colors onto the wet fabric.
4. Let dry for 24 hours, and then follow instructions on packaging on how to set the color into the fabric.
Grab a bucket full of water, and submerge your sweat suit. Wring out the extra water so the fabric is wet, but not soaking.
The key to getting pastel hues is to mix the fabric dye with plenty of water. Use a foam brush to apply the dye in sections on the wet fabric.
Apply each color right next to the other, and watch them blend into a pastel rainbow.
On to the pants to complete the rainbow tracksuit attire.
Let your rainbow masterpiece dry for 24 hours, and then follow the dye’s instructions on how to set the color. This will most likely be by ironing on the reverse side of the fabric.
Feel free to let your inner Rihanna shine and rock this tracksuit with heels and stacks of jewelry, or go the more comfy route and pair it with a bright pair of sneaks ;)
We’re obsessed with these pastel watercolored hues and kinda want our hair to rock these same colors.
