DIY These ModCloth-Inspired Shell Hanging Planters in Minutes
We know how you feel when it’s summertime outside: The sun is shining, the weather is so nice, and while it’s tempting to forget your day job and head outside, most of us have to spend nine to five in front of a computer screen. But surrounding ourselves with nice house plants and cute and fancy office supplies can definitely help with inspiration and productivity. Liven up your workspace and bring some ocean vibes in with this adorable hanging planter, inspired by the Modcloth To Shell and Back Hanging Planter Set ($40).
Materials and Tools:
- shells
- air plants
- black Sharpie
- scissors
- twine
- transparent thread
Instructions:
1. Decide where your hole is going to be and use the Sharpie to mark that spot with a small dot.
2. Take scissors and scratch into the shell on top of the dot. Then carefully twist the utensil, pushing into the shell. Continue twisting vigorously until you reach the other side of the shell.
3. Thread the twine through the hole and tie a knot.
4. Add a transparent thread so that it will be easier to hang the planter.
5. Add an air plant and repeat to create one more hanging shell.
Decide where your hole is going to be and use the Sharpie to mark that spot with a small dot. Keep in mind that the closer it is to the edge, the easier it is to crack. Now take your scissors or a knife and scratch into the shell on top of the dot. Then carefully twist the utensil, be careful and push into the shell as you go. Continue twisting vigorously until you reach the other side of the shell. When you’ve reached the other side, twist a couple more times, then stop. Thread the twine through the hole and tie a knot. Lastly, add a transparent thread so that it will be easier to hang the planter and complete with an air plant or any tiny fresh branch or flower of your choice. These look great in pairs, so make a couple that can “hang out” together.
