DIY This Picture Perfect Frame Gallery to Personalize Your Dorm
One of the most exciting parts of going away to college is getting a living space of your very own that you can decorate exactly how you please. Being away from home for the first time, it was so important to me so that I could display photos of my friends and family. I recently took a couple of Brit + Co online classes, Phone Photography Basics and How to Use Photo Editing Apps Like a Pro class. In these classes I learned how to shoot, edit, and style artful, polished photos just using my smart phone. I wish that this class had been available to my younger, collegiate self. Lucky for you, it is now! With this photo frame gallery DIY, you can showcase all of the beautiful photos you’ll take with your new set of skills, as well as things you find along the way that inspire your creativity!
Materials and Tools:
- 18×24-inch frame
- 2 small canvases
- pom-pom trim
- tassel trim
- washi tape
- thumbtacks
- tiny clothespins
- hot glue gun
- scissors
- personal photos/inspo clippings
Here we go!
The pom-pom trim will be what you hang your photos from with the clothespins! Attach the trim to the inside left and right of the frame using a small amount of hot glue. I added the extra security of a thumbtack holding the trim in place; plus these tacks are super cute!
Make sure you think about the size of the photos you will be hanging and leave yourself enough room in between each trim. Repeat this process until you have attached your desired number of rows.
Add your photos!
I mapped out my photos while keeping in mind where I wanted to place my canvases.
Next up, make your mini mood boards on the canvases. I put some of my own art up, plus some clippings from magazines that inspired me! You aren’t going to attach the canvases to the frame; they’ll be attached to the wall within the frame.
Mood boards are key to draw inspiration from!
The last step is to add some extra color and texture with the larger pom-pom and tassel trim. Using the hot glue gun, layer the two trims at the bottom of the frame. I went with the tassels first since they lay flat, then added the pom-poms on top.
You’re all set to hang your mini gallery!
It’s the perfect pop of personality for your dorm.
