How to Turn Your DNA, Fingerprints + Kisses into Wall Art
Hi, I'm Brit, the founder and CEO of Brit + Co. I'm a young mom of two, tech nerd and design-inclined lady who has a zillion hobbies and curious about... just about everything! My mission from the beginning has been to unlock women's creativity and courage to try new things so that they can find the path to their true passions.
Every kiss begins with… DNA? With Valentine’s Day just around the corner, we’re thinking of thoughtful and creative gifts to give to our significant others. Instead of going for the typical diamond pendant or box of chocolates, maybe it’s time to get even more personal.
DNA 11
genetic mapping kit, and you’ve got a whole DNA-themed Valentine. (P.S. If your significant other really loves kits, you should probably throw in a BritKit as well!) We’ll be the first to admit, this concept is definitely on the weird side. Presenting your special someone with your DNA might seem a bit charged, especially if this is only your second date ;)First up, the DNA portraits. Starting at $199, these pieces couldn’t be more one-of-a-kind. To create your piece, simply swab the inside of your cheek and send it in! Then, you choose the desired size, color combo, and boom, custom DNA art. You can even swab up to 4 different peoples’ cheeks to get a super duper combo DNA portrait.
Though the concept might border on creepy, we have to admit that the aesthetic outcome is surprisingly modern and minimalist as far as design goes.
You know what they say about kisses and a thousand words. Why not give your sweetie a permanent 2D version of your puckered-up pout?! This poppier Warhol-inspired option even gets you free organic lip gloss! When you choose to make a kiss portrait (starting at $299), DNA 11 will send you a collection kit, including the aforementioned gloss, and a bunch of kiss image sheets. After sending your kiss sheets back, you choose how you want to customize the size and color of your portrait.
Nothing says ‘I love you’ more than hanging your significant other’s smooch in the house.
And onto the fingerprints! Fingerprinting isn’t just for police anymore. Now, when you collect your fingerprint, you can turn it into a unique work of art as well. At $199 each, it makes us thinking of finger painting gone Picasso.
And last, the ancestry portrait meets QR code. For $440, DNA 11 will use your DNA sample to extract your maternal ancestry and translate it into a sequence of numbers and letters. Then, they add that sequence to your unique serial ID number assigned by DNA 11 and generate a QR code. The resulting code is the portrait!. What’s even cooler is that when you scan the portrait, it’ll lead you to your personal ancestry page on the DNA 11 website.
