This New Cookie Dough Shop Is What Dessert Dreams Are Made Of
Remember all those times when your mom used to yell at you for sneaking a spoonful of cookie dough? Well, if you’re still a big fan of the rebellious childhood treat, we come bearing great news: A new dessert cafe just opened up where eating raw cookie dough isn’t just allowed, it’s the whole point. Allow us to introduce you to your new sugar obsession: DŌ.
The NYC-based company has been making edible cookie dough for a few years now, but the shop’s owner Kristen Tomlan just opened a brick and mortar location last week. Since then, there has been a pretty steady line out the door. When we showed up at 11am on Saturday, it was already about 50 people deep.
But it’s no surprise that the cookie dough confections have received such a warm welcome. Tomlan is the first to make everyone’s guilty pleasure a dessert you can eat without that low-key fear of contracting a case of salmonella. The dough here is made using heat-treated flour and pasteurized eggs to combat the dangers usually associated with eating a spoonful of raw dough.
In a release about the opening, Tomlan writes, “I created DŌ to let dessert lovers eat cookie dough exactly how they crave it — straight from the mixing bowl. I’ve shared my love of cookie-dough-based treats through my website for two years and I’m thrilled to expand upon our line of signature, handcrafted flavors to offer a full menu of craveable and creative desserts.”
But this isn’t just a place where you can go for a spoonful of classic chocolate chip, although that’s definitely an option. There are 16 different flavors to choose from. We repeat, 16 different flavors. A few standouts: Chocolate Dream (brownie batter, chocolate chips and Oreos), Fluffernut (peanut butter dough, dark chocolate chips and marshmallow fluff) and Heavenly (sugar cookie dough, Nutella, chocolate chips, caramel and sea salt). Now might be a good time to pause and wipe away any drool you’re currently leaking.
Get your pick in a cone or a cup, just like you would a scoop of ice cream. Or, if you’re ready to really take things next-level, you can get a cookie dough sandwich (where ice cream is pressed between two layers of dough), a cookie bomb or a dough-infused sundae. We can already feel that sugar coma coming on, but TBH we are welcoming it with open arms.
If you’re in the NYC-area, DŌ is located in the oh-so-charming West Village. Find out more on their website.
