How to Hack a Double Braid in 5 Minutes Flat
We’ve been obsessing over wearing braids in our braids since forever, and with spring in the air, the trend is only getting hotter. We love a good hair hack, so we created a fun, easy-to-master braid to get you out the door fast while looking fly as all get-out. Meet the double-up braid: a lengthy and voluminous braid created by wrapping *two* braids together and using just three elastic bands. No heat and no fuss — boom.
Grab the top layer of your crown and create a French braid. Secure it in place with an elastic band and pin it upward so it’s out of the way, allowing you to create a second braid below it.
STEP 2: CREATE YOUR SECOND BRAID
Create a ponytail and complete a fishtail braid, wrapping two pieces of hair on top of each other. Secure the ends with an elastic band.
STEP 3: FATTEN BRAIDS + WRAP
Next, pancake both braids to create width and dimension by tugging on the individual pieces of hair. Wrap the first French braid around the top elastic band of your fishtail braid, securing it in place by sticking the ends in through the existing elastic. The final result is a braid that seems to go on forever, while looking full and free-flowing.
The final look is totally bohemian, and gives off that lived-in look we love! Oh, and don’t be scared of your ends popping out; this braid looks better as pieces fall naturally. They’ll add to the look and effortless appeal of this braid!
This braid is so our vibe. It’s the perfect look for brunches, the beach, a trip to the farmers’ market, a music festival or even work! And it’s done in just a few minutes.
