Dustin’s “Stranger Things” Brontosaurus Hoodie Has Raked in $400,000
After an explosive season two of Stranger Things, it’s perfectly understandable if you’re obsessed with finding all paraphernalia you can get your hands on. After all, you have to have something to tide you over until the next season, right? The latest and greatest piece of Stranger Things merch comes from a pretty unexpected source: The Science Museum of Minnesota.
The garment in question is the purple brontosaurus “thunder lizard” sweatshirt Dustin is seen wearing in the second season of the instant cult classic. The hoodie apparently hasn’t been manufactured in 30 years — museum spokeswoman Kim Ramsden believes a few hundred of them were sold in the mid-1980s during a traveling exhibit.
After fans began putting in call after call asking about the sweatshirt, the museum went to Netflix to get the artwork and started producing it again.
On Tuesday, they announced that “the wait [was] over,” and by late afternoon, more than $400,000 had been made from sales of the Brontosaurus clothing, like the Adult Hoodie ($37), according to Star Tribune.
The hoodies were almost sold out by noon, and the museum’s website crashed due to the high traffic. Luckily, the site is back up and you can snag a hoodie, crewneck sweatshirt, or T-shirt right now. You know, in case you haven’t finished your holiday shopping.
Will you get one of the shirts? Tell us @BritandCo!
