Try This Ikea Hack and Get Your Home Ready for Winter
As temperatures outside drop, I love to bring some warmth back into my home and treat myself to a new pair of cozy slippers, a new snuggly winter blanket or an additional coffee mug for my collection. But when it comes to decorating the workspace with some winter accessories, finding the perfect items that are both cozy and colorful is not easy at all. That’s exactly the reason why I decided to go Plan B and DIY my own aqua sheepskin rug. If you’re wondering how to hack this IKEA rug, then scroll on.
Materials and Tools:
- TEJN faux sheepskin rug
- fabric dye
- rubber gloves
- scissors
Instructions:
1. Submerge the faux sheepskin in water.
2. Wear your gloves and pour the dye directly into your washing machine drum. Add your rug, set your washer to “cold” and run a cycle.
3. Start another normal cycle with a mild detergent.
4. Let the rug air dry, then remember to clean your machine. Set your washer to “hot” and “high” water settings and run a full wash cycle.
First, choose your dye color, and keep in mind that since this IKEA rug is made of a synthetic material, the final shade you will get will be lighter than the one you see on the dye packaging. Now, take your sheepskin rug and submerge it in water to remove any dirt or deposits that could interfere with the dying process. Then, wear your gloves and pour the dye directly into your washing machine drum. Add your rug, set your washer to “cold” (105 degrees Fahrenheit is considered ideal) and run a cycle. After the cycle has finished, start another normal cycle with a mild detergent. At this point, remove your rug from the washing machine and let it completely dry.
Last but not least, clean your machine. Set your washer to “hot” and “high” water settings, then run a full wash cycle. Once the cycle has finished, you’re officially done!
