Ed Sheeran Responds to Game of Thrones Backlash Like Only He Would
If Twitter is any indication, fans seemed to love every single moment of the Game of Thrones season seven premiere, except one: Ed Sheeran’s controversial cameo. His appearance sparked an internet meltdown by those who either loved or (viciously) hated the scene, and the backlash seemed to drive the singer right off of Twitter (temporarily, since he’s already back). But Sheeran just revealed that the social media hate wasn’t what moved him to delete his account.

Posting an “unrelated” picture of himself and his “wonderful manager riding off into the sunset together” to Instagram, Sheeran captioned the image, “Last i’ll say on this. I came off Twitter Coz I was always intending to come off Twitter, had nothing to do with what people said about my game of thrones cameo…”
Wanting to address the buzz around the fact that he had suddenly gone MIA on Twitter *and* appeared on one of the most popular shows of our time, he added, “…because I am in game of thrones, why the hell would I worry what people thought about that. It’s clearly f*ckin’ awesome. Timing was just a coincidence, but believe what you want.”
Given that Sheeran also has an upcoming role on The Simpsons, we think he’s probably feeling pretty good about his burgeoning TV career.
