From the insane levels of hype to the expansive 250 offerings to the fact that it sold out like that, Target’s Lilly Pulitzer collection was nothing less than epic. So, ever since the patterned mania was swept off its racks last month, we’ve been wondering just how Target would follow up an act like that. The answer finally came today, when Target announced that it would be teaming up with New York accessories designer Eddie Borgo for a first-of-its-kind collaboration: a line of jewelry, bags and wall art that shoppers can DIY.
Launching online and in select Target stores beginning July 12, the collab will feature the same architectural aesthetic that made Borgo a 2010 CFDA/Vogue Fashion Fund runner-up and 2011 CFDA Swarovski Award winner, including geometric shapes, symbols and other sculptural charms. But at Target, they won’t be sold as stand-alone necklaces, handbags or earrings. You’ll be able to buy additional components to clasp on to each piece to create custom designs that match your personal style. Think: giving a minimalist wristlet a punky makeover with studs, dangling beaded chains off of a bucket bag to help it match your signature boho flair or adding turquoise charms to a metallic statement necklace so it can count as your outfit’s pop of color.
“When designing this collection, I was inspired by the idea of modernizing the 1960s and 1970s craft culture and empowering people to be creative,” Borgo said on Target’s blog. A collection that’s gorgeous, affordable (the line is priced from $7.99 to $49.99) and taps our inner makers? If you ask us, summer can’t come soon enough.
