Taylor Swift has had a crazy two years. After surprise-dropping folklore and evermore, Swift also released her rerecorded Fearless and Red albums, broke records with her ten-minute version of "All Too Well," obtained an honorary doctorate from NYU, and spoke on a panel at the Tribeca Film Festival. Whew.
Today, Swift just dropped her new song "Carolina," a haunting ballad inspired by Kya from the book-turned-movie Where The Crawdads Sing (premiering on July 15th). Listening to the song feels like a journey through North Carolina, and just about every lyric can also connect to the story's murder plotline.
I wrote this one alone in the middle of the night and then @AaronDessner and I meticulously worked on a sound that we felt would be authentic to the moment when this story takes place. I made a wish that one day you would hear it. ‘Carolina’ is out now 🥺 https://t.co/2xqE0fEr10

carolina is for the sad girlies. the ones that love to be on their own but feel lonely sometimes. the ones that are obsessed with cardigans, coffees and rainy days. for the ones that love to read. for the ones that romanticize little things in life bc it makes them happy.

The fact that Taylor and Aaron only used instruments that existed in the 50s and that she recorded it in one take like how it used to be done at that time shows what kind of artists they are and how much they care @aaron_dessner @taylorswift13 #Carolina
