With a new season, it can be easy to return to tried-and-true colors we sported at the same time last year, but why not opt for something more unexpected? Burgundy Shadow: While it’s not uncommon to reach for this hue to swipe on your lips, adding it to your peepers can instantly elevate your makeup game, according to pro Robert Rumsey, who works with Kelly Osbourne and Daya. “Burgundy-meets-red around the eyes is going to be big this season,” he tells us. “This flattering color makes every eye color pop.”
The key to slaying this look is to blend, blend, blend, so it doesn’t appear harsh. “Shadow textures are so modern now that it makes it easier to diffuse the color without it looking over-the-top,” Rumsey explains. "Chanel Ombre Premiere Longwear Powder Eyeshadow ($30) in Desert Rouge is my current favorite.”
Silver Eyeliner: Face fall head-on with dope silver eyeliner instead of a traditional black or brown. “Metallics are so fun to add to the eye to spice up fall makeup,” says makeup artist Ashley Gomila , who beautifies Ashley Greene, Iggy Azalea, and Banks.
“I especially love doing a silver winged liner as an unexpected twist this season.” Try the affordable NYX Liquid Crystal Body Liner ($4) in Crystal Silver if you want to experiment with this trend.
Neon Lips: Why not head into cold weather season with a lip that’s hot, hot, hot? “I’m all about wearing bright colors on the lips in a discreet, balanced way this fall,” Rumsey tells us. “I love using Hourglass Girl Lip Stylo ($32) in Leader, a bright fuscia, and Lover, a bright orange red. The texture of these are brilliant, and they’re so moisturizing, which is perfect for chilly weather.”
Rose Gold Highlighter: Forget pearl or yellow gold hues; a liquid rose gold version is undoubtedly unique. “Highlighter isn’t new, but the liquid rose gold versions like Charlotte Tilbury Hollywood Beauty Light Wand ($38) make it so fresh for fall,” Rumsey says. “Powder highlighters can be too chalky on the skin during the colder months, but this creamy, liquid version looks so modern.”
