5 Fall Fabrics and How To Wear Them

Brown J.Crew cashmere crewneck sweater
Fall vibes are here. You've got your seasonal candles, Meg Ryan movies, and a few autumnal cocktail recipes queued up, but what shall you wear? No season has a mood quite like this one, and there are a few fabrics that almost seem like they were made for the season: denim, corduroy, flannel, cashmere, and tweed. Below, we've rounded a few pieces made of our favorite fall fabrics to mix into your wardrobe.
Denim
Denim may as well be fall's neutral. The heavy fabric (although not always) is perfect for cooler days and chilly nights. It can be dressed up or down, going from a pumpkin patch to a beer garden to a candlelit dinner party in one day.
Everlane The Curvy Cheeky Jean ($88 $26)
Corduroy
Corduroy belongs to fall, really. It's soft yet substantial but not too heavy, making it ideal for cool but not quite cold days. Plus, you can find it in just about every color imaginable.
Anthropologie Pilcro The Icon Flare Corduroy Jeans ($148)
H&M Corduroy Pants ($35)
Flannel
Soft and warm and — more often than not plaid — flannel is a falling leaf on the first chilly Saturday. It's the ultimate casual, cozy fabric that's usually made of super-soft, medium-weight cotton that has a fuzzy feel.
H&M Flannel Shopper ($50)
Cashmere
Cashmere is a type of wool that's traditionally made from the undercoat of a cashmere goat. It's super-soft and very breathable, making it ideal for both indoors and out in the fall.
Tweed
A textured twill that's usually made of open-weave wool, tweed often crosses over into plaid territory. It's probably most traditionally associated with blazers, but you can find it in anything from cropped pants to mini dresses and skirts.
Uniqlo x Ines de la Fressange Tweed Jacket ($130)
Reformation Jennie Skirt ($128) and Peggy Cropped Jacket ($278)
Mango Checked Tweed Coat ($200)
