How to Hack a Fishtail Braid for Girls Who Can’t Braid
Braids can be intimidating: There are a so many different styles you can create, and the finished product, while stunning, can often look too complicated. We totally get it. Sometimes, it’s best to stick with something that’s simple, like a traditional fishtail braid, unless you’re a girl that just flat-out hates braiding. That’s where this hair hack comes in. With a few simple tweaks, you can create a fuss-free fishtail style in mere minutes. Meet your new go-to ‘do for those days that call for something other than a topknot or ponytail.
STEP 1: SPLIT IT
To start this look, toss your hair to one side and split in half so you’re left with two separate sections of hair.
STEP 2: SPLIT AGAIN
Next, split one of your sections again to create a hole in your hair. After that, put your entire other (opposite) section of hair through it, kind of like you’re tying a knot.
STEP 3: REPEAT ON THE OTHER SIDE
Take the section you just put through the hole, split it and pull through the opposite section of hair. Remember that, initially, you’re only working with two sections of hair that you continually split into two sections to then thread through the opposite section of hair. Keep repeating this method on each side and you’ll be rocking a cool girl braid in no time!
STEP 4: PANCAKE THAT BRAID
Once you’ve reached the end of your braid, plump it up by using the pancaking technique (gently tug at the sides of your braid so it thickens up).
See, lazy girls? An approachable, easy-to-master way to hack a fishtail when you’re not in the mood for a super fussy ‘do but still want your look to have a polished vibe to it. You have fun with that extra 10 minutes in the morning!
