Of all the statement-making hairstyles a celebrity can try, none is quite so bold as a shaved head. It completely changes her appearance while silently saying, “I am strong. I am fearless. This is me — take it or leave it.” Scroll through to check out all the bald (and beautiful!) stars who have braved the electric shears.
Kathy Griffin: Of all the reasons to shave your head, Griffin’s might be our favorite. The comedian picked up the shaver after her sister, Joyce Griffin, was diagnosed with cancer. As their family friend Yashar Ali posted to his Twitter account, “In solidarity with her sister, who is going through chemo, @kathygriffin shaved her head.” (Photo via

Kate Hudson: Hudson looks like a whole new ( badass) woman after saying goodbye to her blonde boho tresses for a new film called called Sisters, which will be directed by none other than Sia. (Photo via @enews )
Kristen Stewart: Stewart dropped jaws earlier this year when she attended the premiere of Personal Shopper rocking a blonde, completely shaved ‘do. According to the 27-year-old, it was a “practical” move while shooting for Underwater, which saw her wearing a helmet for much of the film. “I mean, I’m not going to be able to have touch-ups once they put the helmet on my head,” she told the TODAY show. Demi Moore: Moore, who famously shaved her head for her role as Jordan O’Neill in G.I. Jane, says it prompted an unexpected reaction from people: They wanted to touch it. “I had more people want to touch me,” she said. (Photo via Getty)
Shannen Doherty: After Doherty was diagnosed with breast cancer back in 2015, she took to social media to document her journey battling the harrowing illness, even documenting the process of shaving her head prior to undergoing chemotherapy. Now in remission, she’s growing her hair back out (and donning wigs on the set of the remake of Heathers — eeee!), but she was every bit as beautiful bald as she is with hair, reminding us all of what it means to “fight like a girl.” (Photo via @theshando )
Kellie Pickler: Like Griffin, Pickler chose to shave her head as a show of support when her BFF, Summer Holt Miller, was diagnosed with cancer. Not only did the two do the deed together in preparation for Holt Miller's upcoming chemo treatments, but Pickler even offered to go first, joking about having found a new costume for Halloween (G.I. Jane). As of 2013,

Natalie Portman: Anyone who’s ever seen V for Vendetta won’t be surprised to see Portman on our list: Her head-shaving scene was one of the film’s most iconic. While she admits it was a dark moment for the character Evey, for her, it was just the opposite. “Obviously for the character, it’s a very traumatic experience, because it’s a violence committed upon her, but for me, I got to choose to do it… it was actually kind of wonderful to throw vanity away for a little bit. You’re always expected to be primping and preening yourself — it’s a pretty nice opportunity to not think about that stuff for a little,” she said at a press conference. (Photo via Warner Bros. Britney Spears: Spears has come a long way since her infamous 2007 head-shaving incident. While we may never know the true motive behind it — Spears told the Daily Mail in 2008 that even she was confused by it (“I sit there and I look back and I’m like, ‘I’m a smart person. What the hell was I thinking?’”) — we do know that she went on to make a comeback like the world had never seen. (Photo via Chris Wolf/FilmMagic/Getty)
Cara Delevingne: Delevingne debuted the first stages of her new look for her upcoming film, Life in a Year, in which she plays a cancer patient. The 20-year-old was keen to make the change against the advice of her agents and managers, who begged her not to do it. “When it’s a part like that, especially when it’s about cancer, I needed to feel like what it felt like to have no hair,” she explained. As it turns out, the answer was “liberating. I really like it a lot,” she told Elle. “It’s been really amazing.” (Photo via Alberto E. Rodriguez/Getty)
Halsey: Halsey ditched her signature blue locks in favor of a more freeing look back in 2015, refusing to be defined by her beauty. “This whole year I was my hair in every article,” she explained in a tweet. “The girl with the blue hair. The girl with the pixie cut. And now. It’s. all. Gone! Feels good.” (Photo via Frazer Harrison/Getty)
Solange: Solange
clapped back at those who accused her of “pulling a Britney” with a negative connotation when she shaved her hair back in 2009, taking to Twitter to set the record straight. "I. Was. NOT. Inspired. By. Anyone. But. myself,” she reportedly wrote at the time. “I. Have. Done. This. Twice. In. My. Life. I was 16. I was 18. Did. Not. Care. About. Your. Opinion. Then. Don’t. Care. Now.” She went on to add that she simply “wanted to be free from the bondage that black women sometimes put on themselves with hair,” and that she wanted to spend her energy on something else besides the salon. Amber Rose: Practically the poster woman for a shaved head, Rose has been sporting the look for years, after having seeing Sinead O’Connor in her “Nothing Compares 2 U” video as a young woman. “I was inspired by her,” she told Oxygen. “And I grew up in Philly. Eve was really popular.” Though the talk show host says her friends begged her not to go through with it, she “rebelled and went straight down the middle to the barber shop. [15] years later, I still have it.” (Photo via Paras Griffin/Getty)
Charlize Theron: Theron went all out for her role as Imperiator Furiosa in 2015’s Mad Max: Fury Road, shaving off her locks without a care: In fact, she did it herself! “I had just finished two press tours and my hair was destroyed from heat damage, so I was glad to get rid of it,” she told People. What’s more, it made the new mom’s life a whole lot easier. “[I] just loved the idea of not having to style my hair every morning,” she explained. “The timing was perfect.” (Photo via Warner Bros. Cynthia Nixon: The fiery red-head we came to know and love as Miranda Hobbes on Sex and the City gave fans a shock when she debuted a brand new look for her role as cancer patient Vivien Bearing in the Manhattan Theatre Club’s production of Wit. Nixon, who herself was diagnosed with early-stage breast cancer in 2006, told Kelly Ripa the look was a lot more upkeep than she had predicted. “I thought it was gonna be no-muss, no fuss, but I have to shave it every day!” she revealed on the show. “It’s got kind of a five o’clock shadow, and you don’t want to go on with that.” (Photo via Craig Barritt/Getty)
Jessie J: The “Real Deal” singer’s locks were shaved for a special on the BBC’s Comic Relief for a good cause: The UK charity, which also runs Red Nose Day, helps various charities stay afloat. “I’ve never been abused, I’ve nothing to be afraid of,” she reasoned. “Shaving my head is the smallest thing I could do to give back.” (Photo via Gareth Cattermole/Getty)
Cate Blanchett: Though Blanchett, who shaved her head “completely bald,” for her role in 2002’s Heaven, may have hid her shorn locks on the red carpet (“I didn’t want people to think I was spoofing Demi,” she told Allure), it wasn’t the first time the Aussie actress had shaved her head. Back in 2012, she told Huffington Post, “When I was at school, I used to shave my hair really close,” she revealed. “It was just so easy. For some reason, I’ve let it grow again, but I think I’ll just cut it all off again.” (Photo via Miramax Films)
Anne Hathaway: Hathaway underwent a MAJOR transformation for her Oscar-winning role in 2012’s Les Misérables: Not only did the 34-year-old go on what she referred to as a " starvation diet," but she also shaved off her signature brunette locks. Still, the look suited the Ocean’s Eight star, who told Vogue, “I’m just so pleased with how I look, so I now quite like having short hair.” (Photo via Universal Pictures)
Lupita Nyong’O: Nyong’O had two simple (and sweet!) reasons for making the big shave, both of which she revealed to Vogue: to find out what her head looked like and to save her dad some hard-earned cash. “My father doesn’t know this, but it was at his prompting. He was funding all my hairdos, and at one point he said, ‘Ah, why don’t you just shave it all off.'” (Photo via Michael Buckner/Getty)
