Hack the Figure-8 Braid in Less Than 8 Minutes
As we giddyup for summer, we’re stepping up our game to bring you even more easy braided hairstyles that’ll elevate any warm-weather wardrobe. Enter the figure-eight braid! It’s one of those five-minute hair hacks that looks way more time intensive than it really is. We promise you’ll master it in no time — and best of all, we’ve hacked it as a side ‘do, so it’s super easy to see what you’re doing. Give it a go, hot stuff!
STEP 1: SIDE PONY + WEAVE
Form a side pony, then part that ponytail into two sections, which we’ll refer to as the right and left. Take one strand of hair from your right parted section and wrap it underneath your left parted section, similar to a fishtail braid.
STEP 2: WEAVE OVER + UNDER
Now, bring that same strand over the left parted section and wrap it under your right parted section. Notice the figure-eight movement happening? Next, re-route that same strand back to the left, wrapping it underneath then on top of your left section.
By now you should begin seeing the figure eight starting to form. Continue this repetitive wrapping motion (weaving from right to left, then left to right) to complete your look.
STEP 3: REACH THE END + SECURE
If your initial strand of hair (the one you are doing all the wrapping with) runs short, you can either finish your braid at that point or simply grab additional hair from the right section, blend it into your initial wrapping strand and continue braiding. Finally, secure your braid with a rubber band and viola — you’re done!
Now that you have the simplified steps to hack this look, get to work and DIY it today!
