The 5-Minute Updo That Will Keep Your Hair Out of Your Face Through Dinner (+Beyond!)
Whether you’re hosting a part-tay this Thanksgiving or playing the role of guest at friends or family banquet, planning your look for the holiday has to be top of mind (right after making sure you finished baking your dish for the potluck, right?). And just like we’ve showed you how to ensure your makeup stays in place all night long, we’re here to let you in on the secret to getting perfect (but not too perfect) stays-in-place hair (or as some of us in the office like to call it, the hairstyle that won’t fall in your face when you’re eating your turkey. Ha!).
Grab a comb, an elastic and a handful of bobby pins – you’re about five minutes away from a playful + polished updo.
Separate your hair into three zones, one on each side of your head and one in the back. Take the back section and place a ponytail in the middle of the back of your head, leaving the ends of your ponytail tucked in to create a bun-like finish.
Step 1: Section + Pony Bun
This is what it looks like when you are done.
Use a fine-toothed comb to backcomb the front section of your hair. This is going to give a little volume and shape.
Take the center top section that you just backcombed (use it as one section if you have fine hair like Juliette or break it into more if you have thicker hair) and twist it around your finger. Once you reach the top of the bun, hold your hair in place with a bobby pin.
Step 2: Back Comb
Step 3: Begin Twisting
Repeat this twisting motion with the hair that is on both sides of your face and continue to pin them in place. If the ends of the twisted hair are too long, you can wrap them around the elastic you used to place the bun pony and pin in place.
Gorgeous from every angle!
Step 4: Repeat Twists
This easy hairstyle will allow you to spend extra time on the details and less time obsessing over your look. What a great way to feel comfortable and look festive!
