Here’s How to Upgrade a Flower Vase With Nail Polish
I’m a total sucker for ceramic glazed home decor. Every time I enter a gift shop, my eyes are automatically drawn to the metallic glazed looks. Since hand-making glazed ceramics can be a time intensive and costly investment, I decided to figure out an easier alternative and came up with a solution that requires just an old vase, a little bit of paint and a beauty product you probably already own — nail polish! A perfect DIY for gifting or a new year refresh, this simple nail polish hack will add a shimmery glaze to almost any home decor piece. Follow along to learn how to make one of your own :)
Materials and Tools:
- vase
- cup of water
- paint brushes
- acrylic paint
- nail polish
Instructions:
- Decide on your vase design, and start painting! Let the paint dry for 20 minutes before proceeding to the next step.
- Carefully add nail polish to your painted design. Let dry for 30-45 minutes.
- Place your favorite flowers inside.
Once you’ve decided on your vase design, start painting! Feel free to play with patterns and mix and match colors. If you’re using lighter colors, you may need to do double or triple coats of paint. Let the paint dry for 20 minutes before proceeding to the next step.
Carefully layer on your metallic nail polish. I experimented with different sized drops of polish and let gravity dictate the results. If you prefer more control, gentle coats of polish will also do the same job. Let your vase dry for 30-45 minutes.
Place your favorite flowers inside.
It’s sure to add an extra modern pop of life to your desk.
Oh, so shiny!
If you’re feeling adventurous, make another!
Prop them next to some books and admire the glaze!
