Fruit Infusions Are the New Green Smoothie
We’ve come to the realization that we can’t live off healthy smoothies as our go-to health drink forever. Reason one: Everyone is sick of the sight of kale. Reason two: Blending anything with ice in winter is just wrong. Reason three: We’re bored of checking our teeth for green bits. So we’re jumping on the infused water train for our morning hydration! It’s the simplest drink ever (basically a fruit salad with water) with combinations that are only limited by your imagination. Raid the fruit bowl, rifle through the veg drawer and see what you can find.
To start you off, we’ve got three delicious concoctions. First up, strawberry, orange and mint for a drink with a zesty kick. Next up is raspberry and lime — such gorgeous colors! And finally we have cucumber, pineapple and thyme (perhaps from your DIY herb garden?). Prep your infusion before you walk out the door, or make it the night before if you want a more intense flavor.
Ingredients:
Makes three 1/2-liter infusions
– 2 large slices fresh pineapple
– 1 x 2-inch chunk cucumber
– 2 sprigs fresh thyme
– 10-12 raspberries
– 1 lime
– 1 orange
– 3 strawberries
– small bunch fresh mint
– water to cover
Instructions:
1. Chop the pineapple into chunks. Slice the strawberries, lime, orange and cucumber into medium slices. Cut the orange slices into half moons.
2. Place the orange slices, strawberry slices and mint leaves into the first glass. Place the raspberries and lime slices in the second glass. Place the pineapple chunks, cucumber slices and thyme sprigs into the third glass. Fill each glass to the top with cold water.
3. Serve immediately, or for a stronger flavor, place a lid on and refrigerate for up to 12 hours.
