Gabi Fresh on Her Sexy Everyday Bra That People Always Ask About
Gabi Gregg AKA Gabi Fresh is an entrepreneurial jill of all trades. She’s a fashion blogger and influencer, a co-founder of plus-size label PREMME, a swimsuit collaborator with Swimsuits For All, and a trailblazing advocate of size inclusivity. In anticipation of her second lingerie launch, The Playful Promises x Gabi Fresh Collection, we talked to Gregg about personal style, embracing our bodies, and the sexy, everyday bra she designed that people are always asking her about.
Brit + Co: Which fall trends have you been feeling this season?
Gabi Fresh: I love play playing with layers and textures when it comes to fall fashion. So everything from faux furs and faux leather, to knits, graphic tees, and plaid long-sleeve shirts. Just having fun with all of the textural elements that come with the fall season that you kinda miss out on when it’s warmer outside.
B+C: Who are your go-to designers?
GF: YSL and Chloé for higher end and ASOS and ELOQUII for more day-to-day. [I like] any designer who, as Christian Siriano put it, is “pushing progress forward when it comes to diversity on the runway.”
B+C: What’s one piece from your closet that people are always asking you about on Insta and IRL?
GF:The Carmen Bra ($46) from my new collection. I love it because it provides great support and lift and it’s also super sexy. You can wear it every day but it’s not your boring, everyday bra. As a busty woman, it’s really hard to find great, supportive options. I wear a 38HH and unfortunately a lot of stores — even plus size stores — stop at DDD or E or F, and so I’m often left out of that experience.
B+C: Aside from size inclusivity, what else is lacking in the lingerie industry?
GF: The thing that’s truly missing is going more in step with quality. Unfortunately, the options that we do have are just really boring and basic. I’m either left with really boring black T-shirt bras that are full coverage or they’re kind of like your grandma’s bra. My line offers a diversity of style with fun elements, and bras that make you feel sexy and not like — you know — your grandma! So I have sequins, I have velvet, I have floral embroidery, and I’m constantly pushing myself out of the box when it comes to design and really trying to bring something different to the market that doesn’t yet exist in my size.
B+C: What advice do you have for women struggling to embrace their bodies?
GF: I think it’s really hard in general. Social media can either be a force for good or evil when it comes to how it makes girls — especially young girls — feel about themselves. Unlike traditional media, that tells you what’s important or shows you a standard of beauty, social media gives you the ability to choose and curate your own experience. I really encourage young girls to follow women [on Instagram] who look like themselves. That’s really underrated in terms of how much it affects your self-esteem and self-worth when you’re seeing images of women that look like you every day. It can really help you feel better about yourself.
