How to Master Khaleesi’s Best Braid in Only 4 Steps
We’re still reeling from this season’s finale of Game Of Thrones. We’re so fired up, in fact, we had to create a Khaleesi-inspired DIY hair tutorial for all our goddesses out there! This style is a must-have for summer — it works on damp or dry hair and it’s fire-breathing HOT. Oh, and did we mention it’s an easy braid you can do in just four steps? Yup.
Arm yourself with just a teasing comb, a few hairpins, dry shampoo, setting spray, and one trusty rubber brand. We suggest jamming to Who Run The World (Girls) while doing your ‘do because you’re gonna be ready to take on anything in a few minutes flat. Ready…Set…BRAID!
STEP 1: PART Your Hair
The dramatic nature of this braid is due to its exaggerated part and its three-dimensional pop. I pulled Maddie, our Creative Coordinator, for this tutorial to illustrate how this style also works for medium-length and/or layered hair (Maddie has both!). So no, you don’t need Khaleesi-length hair to pull this off. Just grab a rat tail comb and place a part on the side of your head.
STEP 2: 3D FRENCH BRAID LIKE A BOSS
Part all of your hair to one side and spray your roots with a dry shampoo like Drybar Detox Dry Shampoo ($22) to create hold and thickness. If working with damp hair, try texturizing with some surf spray — I like Bumble and bumble.‘s product range. On the side of your part with more hair, begin braiding a traditional French braid, but weaving the hair underneath (not over the top) to give your hair a 3D look!
Once you’ve reached just above your ear, begin introducing hair from the opposite ear, until you’ve grabbed all of your hair into your braid, and tie it off with an elastic band.
STEP 3: STRETCH OUT THAT BRAID
Now the fun begins! Start tugging at your braid bit by bit to create fullness and extra drama. Don’t be afraid to yank a bit here and there… remember, the overall look calls for a big, bold braid.
STEP 4: PIN + SET
Use hairpins to tuck away strands and hold volume in place. We secretly pinned the top, middle and lower portion of our braid. Pro Tip: If you have varying layers that poke out of your braid, spray and tease strands into place before pinning them to give them more staying power. Set your look with finishing spray, like L’Oreal Paris Elnett Satin Hairspray ($12) and it’s game (of thrones) on!
Whether you’re a GOT obsessive or not, this romantic braid is a must-try. Make your Friday at the office a little more fierce or one-up the bridesmaids (never the bride!) at your bestie’s beachside wedding. This one’s a real stunner from any angle!
