Beach Waves + Top Knot
Lightly dry your hair with a towel and then spray a minimal amount of a heat protectant, like
($22). This product smells so good! The lightweight formula will coat your hair with just enough conditioning to smooth and protect your tresses when you blast it with heat. Not to mention your blow-dry time will be cut in half! Quickly power dry your hair until it’s fully dry — this means use your dryer all over your head while you tousle your hair with your fingers. No need for any brushes.Step 1 — Quick Waves: Bio Ionic Wand: If you use a curling iron to style your hair, you know first-hand that the quality of the iron is clutch. This particular gem will seriously change your styling game. The Bio Ionic Long Barrel Styler Pro Curling Iron 1″ ($140) is two inches longer than standard irons, which makes curling longer hair absolutely life-changing. The Nanolonic Minerals hydrate and condition your hair, while the BioCeramic heaters evenly distribute heat throughout the wand to help curl faster and more consistently. The trick to these beach waves is to pick up random sections of hair in various widths, beginning the curls at the root of your hair and wrapping it around the wand (away from your face), leaving the ends out.
Step 2 — Sea Salt Spray: Once your waves are set and have had a moment to cool off, use a sea salt spray all over, like Alterna Haircare Bamboo Beach Summer Ocean Waves Tousled Texture Spray ($22). Um, BTW, this is hands down the best smelling sea salt spray I’ve ever used — it’s like a mango and a coconut had a baby on the beach, dude! You’ll love how lightweight this is, while still leaving your hair with just enough salty texture to give that beachy feel. Once you spray throughout your hair, use your fingers to shake, tousle and piece out the waves.
Step 3 — Top Knot: Simply pull your hair up into a messy top knot and use an elastic or a few bobby pins to hold in place.
Finishing Touches — Tousle, Flip + Finishing Serum: To finish off this look, you can add a texture serum to the ends of your hair to keep them from fraying too much, which could take the unkempt look in a messy direction. I love the Rahua Finishing Treatment ($45) more than anything else on the market. It’s formulated with 100 percent natural ingredients that protect your hair while conditioning it. You can never get too much love on those ends, ladies! Simply apply a very tiny amount to your fingertips and then piece out your ends. The palo santo oil will leave you floating on good vibes all day long.
This is the perfect style for capturing those end-of-summer rays. Sport it poolside (there’s still time!) or even with your favorite maxi dress to your next evening event — this is seriously universal, chicas!
