Get the Shabby-Chic Vibe of the Gilmore Girls’ House
The Gilmores’ house was the epitome of shabby chic. Even though it’s been ten years since those last episodes aired, nothing says “home” quite like Lorelai’s stylishly mismatched furniture and enthusiastic commitment to tracking down vintage finds. The Gilmore Girls revival has us over-the-moon excited (seriously counting down the days until that GG premiere party!), but we’re still a little hopeful that not too much has changed on the decor front. After all, it just wouldn’t be the Gilmore house without a collection of kitschy coffee mugs, a monkey lamp and some stellar floral prints. Scroll down to see our favorite ways to get the Gilmore Girls look — and then consult with your dog on your new living room paint color.
Oh the memories this kitchen holds: Making coffee, heating up leftovers, making coffee… Admittedly, Lorelai and Rory didn’t use their kitchen for much more than a place to sit around the table and talk about their day, but it’s still one of the best TV kitchens out there.
First you need a coffee maker. No explanation required there. Lorelai always had a quirky mug at the ready, so deck out your coffee station with a mismatched collection of giant mugs. Another Gilmore classic was the pirate cookie jar, so an offbeat and adorable container will fit the bill. Whether you eat like a true Lorelai and don’t know how to work your oven or you’re going to tackle the new Gilmore Girls cookbook, you’ll need a spice rack and some pretty vintage storage canisters, even if they are just for looks.
Urban Outfitters Single Brew Coffee Maker ($50), Target Threshold Hedgehog Cookie Jar ($20), Pottery Barn Enamel Spice Rack ($79), Overstock Hammered Copper 4-Piece Canister Set ($114), Anthropologie Crowned Leaf Mug ($12)
LIVING ROOM
Next to the kitchen, the living room played host to some of the most memorable moments on the show. Although Luke did try to update some of the features, it’s still the same cozy room where we first fell in love with Rory and Lorelai. If only we could score an invite to join them for pizza and a movie marathon.
The Gilmore living room does look a little dated (it was the 90’s, after all) but you can still get those cozy, curl-up-on-the-couch-with-pizza vibes in your home. Go from shabby chic to boho modern with a vintage flair and pair a gray sofa with a trunk coffee table and plenty of throw blankets. Trade out the florals and quilts for more modern patterns like stripes, but keep the vintage charm with an embroidered pillow.
Anthropologie Cotton Dhurrie Dorrance Chair ($998), Target Threshold Basketweave Chenille Throw ($20), Bryght Ceni Gray Sofa ($1500), PB Teen The Emily and Merritt Traveler’s Trunk ($299), West Elm Large Curved Basket ($54), Southern Elevation Connecticut Hand Embroidered Pillow ($168)
RORY’S BEDROOM
Rory’s bedroom was definitely a book-lover’s paradise and she knew how to rock countless bookshelves and book-filled nooks. But don’t forget about her pride and joy: those perfectly organized sock drawers.
The queen of organization definitely required a perfect workspace featuring a stylish task lamp and a pin board to keep her to-do lists straight. Trade out her floral quilt for a more colorful duvet and start planning your European backpacking trip with a scratch-off world map. Oh, don’t forget about a chic dresser to keep all your socks in check.
PB Teen No Nails Clover Cork Pinboard ($39), Modcloth It’d Be My Desert Quilt Set ($150), Target Threshold Brass Task Lamp ($57), Urban Outfitters World Scratch Map ($24+), Lulu & Georgia Kellie Dresser ($430)
