This Inspiring Platform Celebrates What Makes Women Feel Beautiful

Thanks to filters, airbrushing, and other photo-enhancing tools, our vision of so-called “real women” is often skewed. But it’s not all FaceTuning and Photoshopping. Somewhere between the natural beauty trend and #NoFilter movement is New Zealand-based skincare brand, Girl Undiscovered, and its dedication to real women across the globe.

“From day one, Girl Undiscovered wanted to be more than just another natural skincare brand. We wanted to create a brand and products that inspire females to celebrate their undiscovered best selves,” says Sara Orme, the brand’s co-founder, photographer, and creative director. Through this mission, Orme and the rest of the Girl Undiscovered team cultivated a space that would serve the company’s aspirations, while also inspiring women everywhere to be their most real selves. As a result, its Real Girl platform was born. The blog-like space features individual women and their inspiring stories from across the globe.

With a focus on redefining beauty, Real Girl exists to showcase women from all walks of life in hopes of driving a sense of connection and unity. “Real Girl grew out of a personal passion to celebrate those aspects of being and living life to the full. After photographing thousands of women, it’s clear that beauty is from the energy within,” Orme says of the project.

Located directly on the brand’s website, the platform, which launched with the products in December 2016, features profiles on 15 different women (and counting!) from around the world with insight into their lives, including their passions, insecurities, and what makes them feel beautiful. One scroll through the site will leave you inspired by women like New Jersey-based Dacia, who last felt beautiful after taking a shower and examining her body in the mirror. “I ran my hand over my curves, my boobs, twerked a little, stood there for a minute looking at myself and then said, ‘Girl, you are damn good looking,” she shared. Others, like Su Kyi from Myanmar, hope to create change in her community. “I wish to take a leading role in my village, as my community cannot access a lot of things, so I would like to cooperate with different stakeholders for my community,” she shared on the platform.

Become a Real Girl

Girl Undiscovered knows that every woman has a story and hopes to capture as many narratives — no matter how big, small, or in between they may seem — as possible. “We’re about building a community to share our stories and believe this can only strengthen [us] all,” says Orme. With that in mind, the brand offers either an interview with one of its team members or a quick question-and-answer for the so-called “undiscovered girl” to get involved and share their story.
