Add Some Bling to Your Wedding With This Glitter Cake
We love things that sparkle here at Brit + Co. After making glitter pumps, adding glitter to our roots and wearing glitter makeup, we wanted to add sparkles to our dessert! With wedding season upon us, we decided to bake this stunning glitter cake that guests will definitely remember. We were inspired by The Cake Blog’s simple recipe for a gold dust cake finish. This cake would look lovely on a wedding dessert bar next to other layered cakes, or as a standalone. It is both glittery and sophisticated, but only takes a few simple steps and minimal ingredients. If we are what we eat, we definitely want to be a sparkly glitter cake!
Ingredients and Tools:
— frosted layered cake (We dressed up a boxed cake mix using this recipe, but feel free to use your favorite recipe or buy a pre-made cake)
— clear sprinkles (to coat a 6 x 3 inch double layered cake, we used about 5 ounces)
— 0.2 ounces edible gold dust
— half a shot of vodka
— pastry brush
Instructions:
1. Cover the frosted cake with sprinkles by carefully pouring and patting the sprinkles all over the cake. Press the sprinkles down with a spoon so that when you lightly brush the sides of the cake, no sprinkles fall off. Refrigerate the cake until the sprinkles are firmly attached.
2. Mix the gold dust with vodka, drop by drop, until it makes a thick consistency.
3. With a pastry brush, paint the gold dust mixture onto the sprinkles until everything is covered. Refrigerate until dry. Make touch ups if necessary.
4. Refrigerate the cake overnight. Before it’s ready to be served, stick a few blooms on top of the cake for an extra touch. Serve and enjoy!
