We expected the 2018 Golden Globe nominations to recognize shows and movies like I, Tonya, Lady Bird, Stranger Things, and The Marvelous Mrs. Maisel. And while it isn't necessarily shocking that a few beloved titles (and people) were left off of the list — there are only so many spots in each category, after all — there were a few especially surprising omissions this year. Beauty and the Beast: Disney's live-action remake of Beauty and the Beast was a fairy-tale dream come true for fans and a massive box-office success to boot, raking in $1.2 billion. But so far, at least, it's not an awards season darling. (Photo via Disney)
Veep:Veep has (rightfully) earned its fair-share of Golden Globe nominations over the years, but it looks like 2018 just isn't its year. The HBO hit was overlooked for both Best TV Comedy and Best Actress for Julia Louis-Dreyfus. (Photo via Colleen Hayes/HBO)
Millie Bobby Brown:Stranger Things’ 13-year-old breakout star has continued to impress fans of the show with her stellar performance as the troubled (yet super powerful) character Eleven, but it wasn’t enough to score her a Golden Globe nomination. Congrats to her costar David Harbour, though, who did get a nom for Best Supporting Actor for his role as police chief Jim Hopper. (Photo via Netflix)
Tracee Ellis Ross: The black-ish star, last year's winner for Best Actress in a TV Comedy, isn't even a nominee this time around. (Photo via ABC/Bob D'Amico)
Wonder Woman: Despite the fact that it dominated the box office and became the top-grossing superhero origin movie of all time (!), Wonder Woman was totally shut out of the 2018 Golden Globes. It would have been nice to see it up for Best Director (Patty Jenkins) and Best Actress (Gal Gadot). (Photo via Victor Chavez/WireImage)
Jordan Peele:Get Out got some early Golden Globes buzz when fans found out that it had been submitted to the awards as a comedy. In addition to some dispute about the nature of the film, there's now a bit of an uproar about the fact that it failed to nab nominations for Best Screenplay and Best Director (Jordan Peele). However, it was included in the categories for Best Actor (Daniel Kaluuya) and Best Comedy. (Photo via Justin Lubin/Universal Pictures)
Tiffany Haddish: For her role in Girls Trip, the comedian earned legions of new fans — not to mention a Critics' Choice nomination and the win for Supporting Actress at the New York Film Critics Circle Awards. However, she was shut out of the Globes nominations. (Photo via Universal Pictures)
Greta Gerwig: While not everyone knows the name of the indie director behind Lady Bird, many people expected her to be recognized for her directorial debut. She wasn't — in fact, women were shut out of the directing category completely — but the team behind the movie should still be proud that it earned noms for Best Comedy, Best Screenplay, Best Comedy Actress (Saoirse Ronan), and Best Supporting Actress (Laurie Metcalf). Twin Peaks: Kyle MacLachlan earned a spot on the coveted list for his return to Twin Peaks, but the revival itself failed to nab an Outstanding Limited Series nomination. (Photo courtesy of Showtime)
The Game of Thrones Cast:Game of Thrones was recognized in the Best TV Drama category, but none of the show's stars — Emilia Clarke, Kit Harington, Sophie Turner, Maisie Williams, Peter Dinklage, Lena Headey — earned any individual recognition. (Photo via Helen Sloan/courtesy of HBO)
Mudbound: Mary J. Blige earned a nomination for Best Supporting Actress for her role in Mudbound, and the Netflix drama is also in contention for a Best Song award, but the movie itself was left out of other major categories. (Photo via Netflix)
Milo Ventimiglia: He moved viewers to tears more than once as Jack Pearson on This Is Us, but he missed out on a Globes nomination. Sterling K. Brown and Chrissy Metz were recognized, though. (Photo via Ron Batzdorff/NBC/NBCU Photo Bank via Getty Images)
