What 25 Celebs *Should* Wear on the Golden Globes Red Carpet
The glitz and glamour of the awards season continues this weekend with the arrival off the lively (and alcohol-filled) 72nd Golden Globes Awards. While the actors and actresses hit the ceremony to find out if they’re taking home a Globe, all of us non-famous folk throw a viewing party and tune in mainly for the fab fashion (and occasional flops). We’re expecting some major style moments from Hollywood’s biggest stars before they start laughing at jokes from hosts Tina Fey and Amy Poehler (can they host our life?). In fact, we’ve already got our hopes up for what the noms and presenters will– make that should– be wearing. We’re making our style predictions known here: scroll down to see our dream looks for 25 of the evening’s biggest names.
1.Reese Witherspoon: While the actress is getting recognition for wandering the outdoors in her film Wild, we prefer her girly looks that incorporate pink, like her dress for the premiere of her other buzzy film, Inherent Vice. Let’s just say we’re more bend-and-snap than rugged boots when it comes to the red carpet. (Photo via Kevin Winter/Getty)
2. Emily Blunt: The actress, nominated for her role in the musical Into the Woods, brings the looks to every single red carpet ever. But we are totally crossing our fingers she steps out of the limo in a stunning colorful floor-length gown with some cutout action because OMG we’re obsessed with her set from the opening night of the 11th Annual Dubai International Film Festival. Seriously, it’s making our hearts sing (trust us, you don’t want to hear our voices sing ;) (Photo via Andrew H. Walker/Getty)
3. Amy Adams: We’re hoping the Golden Globe winner and nominee this year for her role in Big Eyes bucks the gown trend and hits the red carpet in bright pants like she did at the 86th Academy Awards Nominee Luncheon in early 2014. Even if she decides to go the usual route and dones a dress, fingers crossed she incorporates her glitzy ’70s vibes. (Photo via Kevin Winter/Getty)
4. Uzo Aduba: We are not crazy when we say the nominee for Orange is the New Black always brings it to the red carpet. We love the metallic embroidery on this knee-length long-sleeved dress she wore to the 2014 MTV Video Music Awards and could totally envision the actress in a similarly structured, glistening gown on the Golden Globes red carpet. 5.Emma Stone: The redheaded beauty, nominated for her role in Birdman, always stuns in elegantly simple gowns, with subtle accessories. One way for the actress to catch everyone in her web at the Globes is by coming down the carpet in a dress that will compliment her light skin tone, like the one she wore to The Amazing Spider-Man 2 New York premiere. 6. Viola Davis: Leather looks good on the How to Get Away With Murder nominee. Hopefully the actress will be showing off her gorgeous legs at the Globes like she did at Disney & ABC Television Group’s TCA Summer Press Tour, but we wouldn’t object to floor-length leather, not in the slightest. 7. Lena Dunham: The Girls nominee always has an unpredictable sense of style (and camera smile). But if the actress and author goes with a dark but playful look like the dress above from the season four premiere of her hit HBO show, we’re sure she won’t be getting laughs on the red carpet (unless that’s what she’s going for). 8. Amy Poehler: At last year’s Golden Globes, the co-host looked stunning on the red carpet in a pantsuit. How fab would it be if she walked the carpet in another jaw dropping pants and jacket combo? Or better yet, a blazer dress over contrasting pants! It’s a thought that has us shouting “Yes, please!” (Photo via Jason Merritt/Getty)
9. Tina Fey: The Globes co-host knows how to rock a pop of color gown filled with patterns, like she did at the premiere of This is Where I Leave You. So why not stick with what works? We’re calling a floral print as big and bold as the jokes she’ll crack on stage. (Photo via Kevin Winter/Getty)
10. Gina Rodriguez: The actress who got The CW its first ever Golden Globe nomination for Jane the Virgin is bound to stun everyone on the carpet with her natural beauty. That’s why we’re pulling for a colorful frock like she wore at the 2014 NCLR ALMA Awards — her skin simply glows in splashy gowns. (Photo via Alberto E. Rodriguez/Getty)
11. Rosamund Pike: Although the actress plays a dark lady in her Globes-nominated role in Gone Girl, Rosamund’s red carpet looks are anything but. Here’s hoping she works in a crisp look with subtle pops of color like the neon pink-bursts in her outfit for the premiere of The World’s End. (Photo via Eamonn M. McCormack/Getty)
12. Quvenzhané Wallis: The young nominee for Annie is probably the only celeb that can get away with rocking Converse on the red carpet and make it work. All she needs to compliment those shoes perfectly is a playful dress (and hopefully the return of her dog purse) similar to the look she wore to the film’s world premiere. 13. Keira Knightley: The actress always brings the classic beauty onscreen and on the red carpet, so we’re expecting nothing but elegance from the British star, who’s nominated for The Imitation Game. We’re hoping Kiera blows us out of the water with a high-fashion take on red carpet glamour — fingers crossed for a gown with next-level detailing like fringe, ruffles or fur like on this gown from The Moët British Independent Film Awards. 14. Taylor Schilling: The Orange is the New Black star is no stranger to black and white garb, rocking the color combo both on-screen and on the carpet here at the 42nd Annual American Music Awards. The two-tone is on trend right now, so we’d love to see her take this crisp, sculptural look to a glamorous new level, all while keeping the pop-of-color shoe. (Photo via Frederick M. Brown/Getty)
15. Anna Faris: The funny gal, star of CBS’ Mom, may only be a presenter at the Globes, but we’re confident she’ll pull out the playful sartorial stops like she did at the People’s Choice Awards 2015 Nominations Press Conference. A jeweled accents like that stone-filled collar are bound to keep people talking long after she announces the winner of her category. (Photo via Kevin Winter/Getty)
16. Kate Hudson: Kate is hitting the carpet simply to present an award, but really, does she even need a reason to work the red carpet? The blonde bombshell loves a neutral hue, like this one she rocked at the Chrome Hearts Opening in Miami. Here’s hoping she pops up next to Giuliana Rancic in a light pink frock (even better, two-piece suit!) come awards night. (Photo via Dimitrios Kambouris/Getty)
17. Kristen Wiig: Wouldn’t it be THE BEST if this hysterical lady rushed the stage and hammed it up with Amy + Tina along with her presentation duties? We can dream, both about Kristen’s potential to crash the party and show up in a bright, mixed-patterned cocktail dress like she did at the Welcome To Me premiere during the 2014 Toronto International Film Festival. Dapper Dudes
18. Eddie Redmayne: Nominated for his role in The Theory ofEverything, Eddiehas been known for wearing a vibrant color scheme in the suit department on the red carpet. Case in point: he presented himself in royal blue plaid at the UK premiere of the movie. If the actor keeps up the playful and colorful two- or three-piece action, we may wind up being more impressed by his attire than his pretty-much-inevitable Globes acceptance speech. 19. Jake Gyllenhaal: Just like the tone of the film he’s nominated for (that’s Nightcrawler, y’all), the actor is loving the all-dark-everything outfits lately, and we are too. We’d love to see a slick all-black ensemble this weekend, similar to his look for the film’s New York premiere when he shows up for the Globes. (Photo via Jamie McCarthy/Getty)
20. Matthew McConaughey: Alright, alright, alright, the True Detective nominee knows how to keep his suit game lively. With a mix and match look like the one worn to premiere for Interstellar in China, his style is harder to pin down than most. So we’ll let Matthew keep us guessing, just as long as his ensemble ends up being an out of this world combo ;) (Photo via ChinaFotoPress/Getty)
21. David Oyelowo: Nominated for his role as Martin Luther King, Jr. in Selma, the actor knows how to make gray look gray-t. We’re digging the monochrome look he wore to the New York premiere of the film and would love to see more down that steely path (we’re thinking a white suit would have everyone talking). (Photo via Ben Gabbe/Getty)
22. Matt Bomer: The actor who has been referred to as a Ken Doll (he even did a performance as one in Magic Mike) took on a completely different look in his nominated role for The Normal Heart. While he likes to keep his suit game simple and sharp, the actor loves playing with patterns and colors under the jacket. We’d love it if he stayed with the exciting pattern pops like he did at the New York premiere of the film, which would cement a victory on the Globes red carpet too. (Photo via Ben Gabbe/Getty)
23. Benedict Cumberbatch: The dad-to-be and nominee for The Imitation Game could be adding something else to his home soon (a Golden Globe). Whether he does get that award or not, we know he’ll look suave in a sleek and dark suit like the one he wore to the Penguins of Madagascar New York premiere. Come to think of it, is the English actor ever not in a suit? (Photo via Andrew Toth/Getty)
24. Chris Pratt: The presenter (what, no nod for Guardians of the Galaxy?!) likes to show off his fit body with form-fitting suits like the one he wore to the UK premiere of the summer blockbuster. We’ll just sit back and enjoy seeing another fits-like-a-glove suit standing behind the podium on the Globes’ stage while we wait for him to announce the winner of his category. (Photo via Tim P. Whitby/Getty)
25. Channing Tatum: Though we totally wouldn’t mind if the presenter (and star of the drama nominee Foxcatcher) showed up in his Magic Mike attire, we can’t deny he cleans up nicely. We love the dark shade of blue the actor went with at the 18th Annual Hollywood Film Awards, so here’s hoping he steps on the carpet with another smooth ensemble. (Photo via Jason Merritt/Getty)
