Google Just Confirmed the Pixel Phone, and It Is Gorgeous
We just saw Google announce a whole new line of devices, and they’re amazing. Some rumors were confirmed, while other of their new devices completely blew us out of the water. Here are some of the highlights from the recent Google news.
Pixel, as predicted, is Google’s new phone. Its camera is rated even above the iPhone 7’s. It is seamlessly integrated with the phone, so there is not even a hint of the camera bump that has become so familiar to iPhone users. With the Pixel, you get free unlimited photos and videos at original quality in Google Cloud. You can also use your voice to search for images using natural language.
Pixel also has quick charging and great battery life — seven hours of power with just 15 minutes of charging. Pixel ships with Android Nougat. Automatic updates means the system will update in the background — you don’t have to do anything.
If you’re switching from an iPhone, don’t worry! Every Pixel comes with an adapter cable to make transferring everything amazingly fast. The Pixel comes in the humorously named Quite Black, Very Silver, and limited edition Really Blue finishes.
Google is teaming up exclusively with Verizon to bring Pixel to the US. It will also be available unlocked on the Google Store. It will cost $649 or $27/month. If you preorder the Pixel ASAP, you can get a free Daydream View, but you have to be quick! Preorder here.
Daydream is Google’s new mobile virtual reality experience, which you can use with the Daydream View, the sleekest VR headset we’ve ever seen. Daydream will also bring us an exclusive Fantastic Beasts and Where to Find Them experience. Other experiences include Google Movies and news videos. The headset will only cost $79 and will come out in November.
Google WiFi, Google’s new Internet experience, retails for $129. You can remotely pause WiFi on devices in your home so that your family will actually all eat dinner together. You can preorder it in November and it will ship in December. Join the waitlist here.
Google also announced Chromecast Ultra, which will let you stream in 4K and HDR and runs 1.8x faster than the current Chromecast. It also has ethernet support. It will be available in November for $69. You can join the waitlist here.
Google Home looks super sleek and is super useful. Especially exciting is its microphone mute button (so the device is only listening when you want it to be). It plays nicely with the smart home devices you already have, and it easily integrates with YouTube, Spotify and Netflix, to name a few. It’s as easy as saying “Okay Google, play Stranger Things.” You know, in case you want to rewatch season one before season two comes out. It’s priced at $129 and comes with a free six month trial of YouTube Red. It’s available for preorder here today.
