Why Gray Highlights Are the New Blonde Highlights
While rainbow hair is still the reigning colorful hair trend, grey hair is having (another) moment. Ginnifer Goodwin debuted a silvery shade at Comic Con and Dascha Polanco has also flawlessly rocked the look. While Goodwin showed off and all-over color and Polanco sported an ombréd version, the latest version of the trend is all about the highlights.
At Sunday night’s Teen Choice Awards, Normani Kordei, a member of the pop group Fifth Harmony rocked the red carpet showing off some silvery highlights. Paired with her otherwise dark tresses, the contrasting look gave off some super chic, Cruella de Vil vibes.
Kordei’s hair choice is super in line with the colored hair trend SF-based hairstylist Ahna Durakovic forecasted back in May. She told us, “I really feel like adding a smokiness to the colors is going to be it. Like adding gray into a pink to create a smokey pink. Kind of more metallic-y,” she said. It looks like Durakovic’s crystal ball was totally on point about the budding new trend.
There is no denying that we’re major fans of the massive rainbow hair trend, but it can be tough to maintain. This monochromatic alternative could be an equally bold new look that doesn’t require quite as many appointments at the hair salon.
