Hey, Chicago: You’re Getting an Amazon Store
When you’re plotting world domination, one land conquered is never enough. According to new reports, Amazon is planning a takeover and will be opening up bookstores across the country.
Late last year, Amazon launched a physical store in Seattle. And some people thought maybe that’s all that would happen. But now, actual physical Amazon stores will open in Chicago, San Diego and Portland, Oregon. Some predict that the company will open 12 to 18 stores around the country in the very near future.
Amazon Books, which opened in the corporation’s hometown last year, tends to focus on highlighting books that have proven popular in Amazon reviews. The shops are pretty high tech and give guests an immersive experience if they come in and use their Amazon app. There’s also a heavy emphasis on Amazon’s Kindles and eReaders on premise. Because of this, Amazon Books has been criticized as “an electronics store that sells books.”
Look for the Chicago store some time in 2017, while the West Coast stores will open later this year.
