These 3 Celebs Made the Same Denim-on-Denim Outfit Look SO Different
With new fall collections from our favorite brands launching what seems like every day now (yay, new wardrobe! boo, beginning of the end of summer :/), one thing has become clear about the upcoming season: denim on denim is going to be big. And when it comes to the 2015 take on the all-blue-everything trend, the classic denim button-up top + pair of jeans seems to be the style we’ll all be out to nail. That may seem like a pretty straightforward proposition at first, if not a little snoozy, but three celebs are showing just how differently this one outfit can actually look. Scroll through to see how the early adopters styled their denim duos and take note on how you can inject your own personal style into this trendy fall uniform.
At the NYC campaign launch of her New York & Company’s Soho Jeans collection, JHud’s denim-on-denim look was all about that playful vintage vibe with matching light wash separates and feminine accents.
Denim Dos: Wearing the exact same wash on top + bottom make the pieces feel more like a badass retro jumpsuit than thrown-together separates. It’s a move you should pull when you want the pairing to feel more refined.
How to Accessorize: To make the heavy garments feel more feminine, Jennifer mixes fun ‘50s-era beauty accents with sleek, modern accessories. While the bright red lip and twisted head scarf might lean a little too Rosie the Riveter, try pairing a thick cat-eye with a fringe belt and minimalist heeled sandals to nail that sweet-chic balance.

Cozy Casual like Gigi Hadid
Lounging as the new face of Topshop in one of its brand-new fall ads (NBD), Gigi’s laid-back take on the trend includes a thrown-on top and contrasting belted blues.
Denim Dos: Last fall, collars were made to be tightly fastened. This upcoming season, Gigi is showing that they can be as unattended-to as your #wokeuplikethis waves. A darker wash of jeans makes the outfit feel cool and eclectic.
How to Accessorize: Gigi keeps accessories extremely sparse — everyday earrings and thinly lined eyes play up the effortless feel, while a braided belt helps tie the whole look together. Reserve this style for those days when “toss on and go” is all you can muster in a morning routine.

Urban Cowgirl like Alexa Chung
In the lookbook for her newest collection for AG Jeans, Alexa proves why she’s a style icon with her unexpected substitution of a denim jacket for a top and high-waisted jeans, both in a darker-than-midnight wash.
Denim Dos: This photo seems to say, “you’ve had your faded denim fill this spring + summer.” Go to the dark side with a pair of deep indigo high-rise jeans and a matching jacket you can keep buttoned over a black crop top all day and night. It’s as rock ‘n’ roll as you can get without wearing leather.
How to Accessorize: Keep the tough-chick vibes strong with Western-inspired booties and a prairie-blown ‘do. Round out the retro flare with pop-of-color buttons or, for a bit of a fancier twist, those hand-me-down brooches that have been collecting dust in your jewelry box.
