How One Tweet About Pokemon Led to An Adorable Love Story + Wedding
There are a lot of clichés about love. One of the most true? You never know where you’re going to meet the love of your life. But perhaps we should update that cliché to the 21st century with: You never know on which social network you’re going to meet the love of your life.
Victoria Carlin noticed a very funny Twitter presence from Waterstones, a British book store chain. She tweeted out “well I’m in love with whoever is manning the @WstonesOxfordSt account,” after one particularly cheeky tweet about Pokémon (remember, this was weeeeeeell before the app was trending).

The two exchanged a few more tweets before Carlin wandered into the London shop. With donuts. There she met the man behind the tweets, Jonathan O’Brien. The two went for a walk during O’Brien’s lunch break and then out for cocktails later. Four years later, they got hitched.

Of course, because life works in mysterious ways, Pokémon made another appearance on the day of the wedding — in the form of the Pokémon Go app. O’Brien tweeted (obviously) that he caught a Jynx while waiting for the ceremony to start.
There’s a lesson in all of this somewhere. Maybe bring donuts next time you arrange to meet someone? Or maybe true love springs from Pokémon? Or maybe the lesson is for those manning corporate social media: Keep tweeting funny things, your future partner could be reading :)
