We love experimenting with new eye makeup looks, and considering we've tried them all (cat eye, puppy dog eyes, you name it), we're ready to try the newest look: siren eyes. This trend uses eyeliner and black eyeshadow to create smokey, dramatic makeup that will look good with your best date night 'fit and with a baggy tee.
This is a great makeup hack for anyone who want to elongate their eyes *and* add more dimension that your standard eyeshadow-in-the-crease looks. Keep scrolling for our favorite hacks!
What Are Siren Eyes?
While siren eyes might seem like a regular cat eye at first glance, they add a few more steps for extra drama. After you draw out your eyeliner wing (siren eyes require the wing to be on the longer side; Danielle recommends ending above your crease), add eyeliner to both the top and bottom of the outside of your eye and around your tear duct. Finally, start at the tip of your wing and bring the eyeliner across your eyelid, above your crease.
One thing to note is that you'll want to leave the middle of your lash line (above your pupil and iris) blank. Otherwise, the makeup will cause your eyes to look small and overcrowded.
What Do You Need For Siren Eyes?
You don't need much to achieve this look, and there's a good chance you already have everything you need! Start out with a liner like the NYX Slim Eye Pencil instead of liquid eyeliner (that way it blends), and after you trace the shape of your siren eyes, use a brush like the Sephora PRO Shadow Brush #18 to buff out the harsh lines.
You can use that same brush to add some black from the e.l.f. Truffles Bite Size Mini Eyeshadow on top of your eyeliner lines for a smokey effect, and Lottie London Shimmer Squad Powder Highlighter Quad to your tear ducts to brighten them up.
If you want to clean the look up, you can use a Neutrogena Makeup Remover Cleansing Towelette or a Q-tip with Garnier Micellar Water to get rid of any fallout from the shadow.
Siren Eyes Inspiration
If you prefer to keep your eyeliner below your crease, leave off the top line to create a more open effect. In addition to your black shadow, use a colored shadow to smoke out the lines for more dimension.
If you have an eyeshadow color that you love, add it to your lid and under your bottom lash line before applying your eyeliner. Your makeup will take on a more glamorous effect, and if the eyeshadow matches your blush and gloss, your base's cohesive look will allow the eyeliner to stand out.
How long you want your eyes to look will determine the length and shape of your eyeliner wing. You can angle it upward and stop before your crease, which will make your eyes look rounder, or draw a flatter line out to your eyebrow, which will make your eyes look longer. Switch it up each time you do siren eyes until you figure out what you like the best.
For the ultimate statement eye, bring the top eyeliner line all the way across your eye. You can layer multiple colors (like this black + silver combo) and play with thickness to get a look that feels the most like you.
