How to Order a Healthy Meal at ANY Restaurant
We love going out for brunch and dinner with our husbands or girlfriends! And when we’re traveling, one of our favorite things to do is try new restaurants in every city. Right now we’re on the road for the Tone It Up Tour (there’s still time to get your ticket and join us for workouts, braid bars, games, and dance parties HERE!). We’re getting to experience the local food in so many cool spots!
We have a few tricks to stay on track with our healthy lifestyle even while we’re dining out. The most important thing is to keep it Lean, Clean, ’N Green, which means choosing whole, unprocessed, and nutrient-packed foods — no matter where you are. And don’t be afraid to ask for substitutions. We do it all the time and your server is usually more than happy to accommodate you.
These are our go-to healthy orders at four types of restaurants. These meals are so satisfying and delicious. Enjoy your meal and savor every bite!
At a Mexican restaurant…
One of our absolute favorites! We usually go for fajitas or a “naked” burrito with chicken, beans, veggies, and brown rice. Fish or shrimp ceviche is another great choice. And of course salsa and guac — ask for cucumbers to dip instead of chips!
At an Italian restaurant…
We love to order a chicken dish with veggies like chicken cacciatore — chicken, peppers, onions, and marinara sauce. We usually hold the cheese, but you can add a little mozzarella to a tomato and basil caprese salad too! Or you can make your own creation by ordering your favorite protein in marinara sauce with tons of veggies instead of pasta. You still get all the delicious flavors with lots more nutrients.
At a sushi spot…
Sushi is a go-to meal for us. Sashimi is always a perfect lean protein option. We also love seaweed salad to get some veggies. If you’re ordering rolls, ask for your sushi to be wrapped in cucumber or seaweed paper instead of rice. And we always ask for low-sodium soy sauce and extra ginger. We’re obsessed with the taste of ginger, and it’s great for digestion.
At a brunch place…
When we’re brunching with our girls, we usually order a smoothie bowl, eggs with a side of avocado and salsa, or a veggie frittata. For a caffeine boost, we love iced espresso with a splash of almond milk.
There’s still time to get your tickets for the Tone It Up Tour!! It’s the ultimate fitness festival including workouts with CorePower Yoga, Jillian Michaels, and us, plus braid bars, games, top brands, rosé, and the chance to connect with thousands of amazing women. Reserve your spot HERE!
