IKEA’s 2017 Catalog Is All About Versatility
From dorm-room style to post-grad living on a budget, IKEA has been there, filling our living spaces with affordable — yet somehow impossibly chic — home decor. The brand’s newest designs offer up an urban and international flair, with a muted and sophisticated color palette. But don’t worry: Like IKEA’s 2016 catalog, the focus is still on making utilitarian furniture at reasonable prices; “Designed for people, not consumers” is the 2017 catalog motto. With an emphasis on usefulness, so many pieces serve more than one purpose, like tables that are also storage units and table tops that can be used as trays. We’re talking major IKEA storage hacks, built right in to the products we love (and love to look at!). Plus, there’s a new modular storage system that could work in every single room of the house. There is so much to love in the new IKEA lineup, your living room will be begging for a makeover.
The catalog opens with the smart new VALLENTUNA sectional system ($1,215; three-piece), designed for both seating and sleeping. Just lift up the seat to stow away blankets and bedding. And say goodbye to matchy-matchy sectionals — this line invites you to mix and match fabrics from a palette of choices that won’t steer you wrong. The GLADOM side table ($30) is small enough to be used in any room of the house and would make an adorable bedside table. Like the sectional system, this table also pulls double duty: The top is a removable tray that looks great as a standalone piece.
Small-space dwellers will definitely want to snatch up the KVISTBRO storage table ($50-$60). Store your knitting supplies or reading material, or keep game-night items close by to break out whenever friends drop by. Table tops are white, and the wire bases come in white or dark turquoise. The VARV clamp spotlight ($35) in chrome, brass or white is also a versatile piece, attaching easily wherever you need it. A built-in dimmer switch makes it adjustable from a reading lamp to a softer mood light (ooh la la).
If you were hoping for some new, great-looking, affordable rugs, you’re in luck! The LOBBÄK indoor/outdoor rug ($80) comes in a classic herringbone pattern and neutral colors that would look great with any decor scheme. And renters and parents alike will love the whimsical KLÄTTA wall stickers ($15). The peel on/off decals are the perfect way to add a fun pop to a blank wall. They come in six motifs, including frames, blossoms, a map of the world and chalkboard silhouettes, plus a selection of letters in two fonts and colors so you can add your favorite inspirational quote.
We love IKEA for its super versatile and affordable storage, and the brand comes through yet again with the new ELVARLI storage system ($700). It’s highly functional and customizable to your needs — you’ll definitely want one for every room in your home. And finally, given the amazing popularity of past IKEA bar carts, we’re not at all surprised to see a *new* rolling storage cart. The SUNNERSTA cart ($30) provides extra storage or prep surface to a small kitchen, but it will also make a handsome bar cart, indoors or out. Did somebody say happy hour?
