IKEA’s 2017 Stockholm Collection Is Pure Scandi-Fabulous
It’s no April Fools’ prank! On April 1, the long-awaited IKEA Stockholm collection hits stores and online, and fans will find lots to love in the 47-piece collection. As we saw with their recent holiday line, there’s an emphasis on all things simple and natural. This time, the collection features light woods, woven rattan, and bright textiles that are a hallmark of that oh-so-trendy Scandinavian style.
Must-haves include a deep, plush sectional in jewel-tone velvet that IKEA creative leader Viveca Olssona calls a “24/7 sofa… somewhere to socialize, relax, sleep, eat, work, do homework, play, listen to music, be together, and have a space of your own.”
Underfoot are classically patterned rugs in red, gray, and navy neutrals that are accented with velvet coordinating throw pillows. And the best part? The rugs are large-scale, room-anchoring statement pieces that will set you back just $200.
The natural elements are literally woven in with rattan chairs and coffee tables. “This collection has much more light wood in it, with rattan and ash replacing walnut,” says Olsson. The pièce de résistance is the spare ashwood cabinet with simple, elegant brass pulls that are super on trend right now.
The hygge home trend dominating Pinterest and Instagram since the end of last year is also alive and well in this collection. ”We were looking for tactile materials with a soft, smooth touch,” says Olsson, “Pieces with well-thought-out, everyday functions and warm, human qualities with a caring, homely feel.”
