This New IKEA Service Assembles Your New Furniture So You Don’t Have To
We’ve been on an IKEA kick since, well, always, but especially since they launched their wanderlust-y Summer 2018 home collection. That said, *assembling* a new piece of whimsical furniture is not always as breezy as adding it to your virtual cart. But it’s 2018 and the times are a-changin’: The Swedish furniture chain just launched a service that will take care of all the nuts and bolts for you. (Literally.)
The home retail giant is partnering with TaskRabbit — an on-demand service that pairs freelance handy workers with tasks you’d really rather not do — for a new “At-Home Assembly Service.” As part of the service, you can add a (pre-screened) “tasker” to your online IKEA order, who will come to your home or office to assemble your brand new purchase. To make things even more convenient, you can choose the exact date and time frame you’d like your handyperson to arrive, starting as early as the day after your furniture is delivered. The service is also available for select in-store purchases.
No more questionably built tables or roomie disputes over frustrating instructions? If you ask us, this is one of the smartest ideas since IKEA’s ridiculously good storage hacks. The service starts at $36 and fluctuates depending on the size and intensity of the project. All prices are shown upfront, and you only pay once the task is complete, so you’re guaranteed to be happy with that new loft bed or swively office chair.
As of now, the TaskRabbit feature for IKEA is available online wherever there’s an existing TaskRabbit business, and in select San Fransisco and New York City stores, though D.C., L.A., Miami, Houston, and Boston will be able to get in on the action in the coming months. (That said, we wouldn’t be surprised if this service spreads to IKEA stores nationwide). You can check the TaskRabbit for IKEA availability in your area here.
