IKEA x Sonos Are Pairing Up to Make Design-Savvy Music Together

If you’re one of the 65 percent of millennials who likes to play music at home, then you are in for a treat. IKEA is teaming up with Sonos to create at new at home experience for music lovers. The collaboration won’t be released in stores until 2019, so there’s still time, but while we’re waiting, here some of the deets.

The IKEA x Sonos collab is the third installment of IKEA’s ongoing Home Smart project. Home Smart began in 2015 with the introduction of furniture with built-in wireless charging for mobile phones. It was followed up in 2016 with smart lighting.

IKEA and Sonos did research about how people interact with music and sound in their homes, and this collaboration is the result. According to Business Leader, IKEA Home Smart at IKEA of Sweden, Björn Block, “When we asked people what sound they associate with their homes many people mentioned that it is music that makes a home.”

CEO of Sonos, Patrick Spence, adds, “We believe that sound should be a considered element of home design, and together we will work with IKEA to create products and experiences that make people’s home look and sound more amazing.”

If IKEA Home Smart’s history and the awesome sound of Sonos is any indication, this collaboration is going to be amazing. While we’re not sure what kinds of products they have in store yet, we’re hoping for Sonos quality speakers at IKEA prices! Or, as Mashable speculates, furniture that integrates Sonos’ home system into the design. Stay tuned for 2019 to find out.
