Yesterday I went and had dinner with my parents to celebrate my fathers 68th birthday 🎂! I am feeling so blessed that he was here to celebrate another year and I am feeling beyond thankful for today. So many people are choosing a word for 2019 and I couldn’t come up with one until my dad was in the hospital last week...and over and over I kept hearing a whisper - HEALTH. So that is my word. My goal is to work on my health so that I can be around for many years to come. I am not saying lose weight OR diet, because that is not my focus. I just want to feel better. My little kitchen nook always makes me smile! Well it was a fun change for the past year but if you have been following my stories then you know that island is going back to being white 🙀 I found I was really missing the brightness and that it competed a bit too much with the black dining room door. Do you guys ever change things and then change them back? That’s the beauty of paint my friends, at least it’s an easy fix! .

This is a view of our farmhouse style kitchen from another angle. (See yesterday’s post for lots of info on what we’ve done to this room). The second photo shows all our thrifty finds and DIYs, what we paid for them, and how we used them to create the kitchen of our dreams on a tiny budget. This transformation took place over 7 years. When you are working on a small budget and doing all the work yourself, it takes time and patience to find the right pieces at the right price. I was constantly searching craigslist, Goodwill, and yard sales with my measuring tape in hand. Always keep an open mind when considering a piece. The vintage dresser we use as a coffee bar was a dark, mass produced piece. It has been painted, the hardware was changed, and the top 2 drawers removed and replaced with baskets. This $40 find started out as our tv stand, then became an entry table, and finally a coffee bar. By painting all the mismatched pieces the same color, we were able to make it look like a kitchen that has always been here. #fixerupperstyle
