Instagram Glitter Masks Make Their Debut at Paris Fashion Week
Lip gloss, our go-to beauty bag essential, has found a new purpose thanks to the makeup masters behind Giambattista Valli’s latest Fall/Winter 2018 fashion show. In a move that looks straight out of Instagram, glitter lip gloss face masks have made it onto the runway — and we are enamored.
Yesterday morning in Paris, makeup maven Val Garland covered six girls’ faces and necks in heaping amounts of M.A.C Lip Conditioner ($16) as a primer for the sparkly look. “You really want to press it into the skin,” she told Elle.
Then, according to Elle, Garland filled a small Ikea tray with fine grade cosmetic glitter and bigger craft store flecks in an array of metallic shades. The artist then held up the tray and began to blow the glitter all over the models’ faces and necks resulting in a full-fledged glitter bomb. For a more vibrant effect, Garland used a soft brush to apply extra glitter to the eyes and the base of the nose and lips to ensure that every inch was covered.
Garland said backstage that the look is “full-on KiraKira,” in reference to the beloved Instagram sparkle app that’s become a social media staple for celebs and Instagram influencers alike. “It’s like the glitterati look has taken over, but isn’t it really fun and kind of magic?”
