People Are Angry That Instagram Just Banned This New Term
Sometimes Instagram is the absolute best — like when you get to watch Kate Hudson karaoke/dance with her son Ryder or you need dinner inspiration and you scroll through some delectable food photography accounts. But there are also times when Instagram leaves us scratching our heads. Recently, users have been reporting that Instagram has banned the hashtag #goddess. (We wonder what EL James would think about this.) This recent move, we suspect, is also tied to Instagram’s attempt to curb lewd content on their site.
The app’s no-nudity rules have been making quite a few headlines with the whole banning and un-banning of #curvy, blocking the eggplant emoji, the #freethenipple movement and now this. Needless to say, people are pissed. Sure, there are workarounds like #goddesses, but that’s not sufficient. Users have deemed the ban sexist (the hashtag #god is still searchable) and are accusing Instagram of censorship. There’s already a hashtag that’s been started to protest the ban: #bringbackgoddess
Your move, Instagram.
