After tragically swiping Custom Locations from us recently, Instagram decided to do us a solid and follow up that harsh move with probably the most exciting development ever in the history of the photo sharing app. You can now upload non-square images and videos directly to Instagram! TTYN, third-party sizing apps.
Today Instagram shared outside the square news for its latest update (version 7.5 for iOS and Android) — users can now upload landscape and portrait sized photos and videos directly to Instagram without any hassle at all. Square restrictions, be gone! Halle-loo!
The social media network revealed the reason behind fiiiiiiinally migrating to this format on the company’s blog. “It turns out that nearly one in five photos or videos people post aren’t in the square format, and we know that it hasn’t been easy to share this type of content on Instagram: friends get cut out of group shots, the subject of your video feels cramped and you can’t capture the Golden Gate Bridge from end to end.” Shocked non-square photos only make up 20% of uploads TBH.
To start sharing those full-sized snaps on Insta all you’ve gotta do when uploading is tap the format icon to adjust the orientation from the old school square to portrait or landscape. Now go forth with your unboxed self.
Are you beyond excited about this latest square-defying Instagram update or will you miss the old days? Share your thoughts in the comments.
