Instagram Stories Is the Latest Update in the Instagram Vs. Snapchat War
Instagram just got a whole lot more like Snapchat. The Facebook-owned company just posted a blog update about its latest feature: Instagram Stories, which sounds suspiciously like Snapchat Stories. “Today, we’re introducing Instagram Stories, a new feature that lets you share all the moments of your day, not just the ones you want to keep on your profile,” the social media platform wrote in the blog post. “As you share multiple photos and videos, they appear together in a slideshow format: your story.”
The feature, which is beginning to roll out now, lets Instagram users create Snapchat-like “stories” that are separate from their main feed and disappear after one day. And in case you’re thinking, “Oh, this is just a coincidence!”, you can doodle on the images, add texts and emoji, and watch who is viewing your story. Yeah, so pretty much *exactly* like Snapchat.
Well, okay, there are some differences. The viewing format, for example, differs in that tapping right will show the next image, while tapping left will show the last, and swiping left will show you the next Story. The Stories are also ranked in your feed based on your closeness with the person.
“Instagram has always been a place to share the moments you want to remember,” the company wrote on their blog. “Now you can share your highlights and everything in between, too.” According to Instagram, you should be seeing the new feature sometime over the next few weeks on iOS and Android.
We can’t help but wonder if the next step is just turning Instagram into Snapchat entirely.
