Jake Gyllenhaal Singing “A Whole New World” at the Tonys Will Totally Intensify Your Crush
The Tony Awards this past weekend not only celebrated the best of Broadway’s entertainment, but they also provided a pretty darn good show for fans at home and the audience members lucky enough to get a seat. And while our screens were rolling over to commercials (like Titus Andromedon’s hilarious Hamilton audition), those at the event were continuously being entertained with various highlights throughout the night. Case in point: The amazing rendition of Aladdin’s “A Whole New World” performed by Jake Gyllenhaal and Sean Hayes, and led by the Carpool Karaoke chauffeur himself, James Cordon.
Though he needed little help with the words, Jake didn’t hesitate to belt it out… and surprised everyone when he sounded pretty good! For real, check out James Cordon’s WTF-where-did-this-come-from? expression, because it mimics what most of us are thinking.
A video of the performance was posted to Sean Hayes’ FB page with the caption, “During commercial breaks at The Tony’s tonight, the amazingly brilliant James Corden started up a Broadway-themed ‘commercial karaoke.’ He asked for volunteers. Jake Gyllenhaal & I were happy to oblige with our rendition of ‘A Whole New World’ from ALADDIN. #TheTonyAwards.” Sean, too, was awesome, but that’s no surprise to anyone who’s seen him over the years (JUST JACK!).
Watch it, love it and totally sing along.
