The CW Is Developing a ‘Jane the Virgin’ Spinoff
Jane the Virgin fans, take heart: Although Jane’s story will come to an end in 2019, the team behind the telenovela-inspired series is working on a spinoff.
According to The Hollywood Reporter, details about the potential new show are scarce, but Jane the Virgin star Gina Rodriguez will act as an executive producer on the project, alongside showrunner Jennie Snyder Urman, former CW exec Joanna Klein, Ben Silverman, Emily Gipson, and writer Valentina Garza, who is penning the script. THR also reports that that spinoff would “feature a whole new cast and follow a story line from the flagship series.”
In the meantime, we still have one final season with Jane Villanueva. The fourth season of Jane the Virgin ended in April, with a *major* cliffhanger involving the return of a beloved character.
Jaime Camil, who plays Jane’s father, Rogelio de la Vega, prevoiusly spoke with Brit + Co about the story’s shocking twist, as well as the end of the series, saying, “We are super sad, of course! It has been a wonderful run. We are a beautiful family, and we love each other very, very, very much.”
“I’ve heard horror stories from Hollywood about how stars or actors can’t stand each other, or how they hate each other, and fortunately, that is not the case on Jane the Virgin,” he continued. “We love each other, and we would like to celebrate the amazing run we’ve had instead of focusing on how sad it will be to finish such a wonderful show that has brought us so much satisfaction and so much happiness.”
The fifth and final season of Jane the Virgin is set to debut in 2019.
