Beyonce Had Twins and Now Jay Z Is Ready to Drop a New Album
It’s hard to keep up with Beyoncé and Jay Z. Between Beyoncé’s innumerable hit songs, albums, and brand collaborations, and Jay Z’s hall-of-fame-worthy music career, both on stage and behind the scenes in his founding of the music streaming service Tidal, it’s hard to imagine just how full the Carter-Knowles family calendar must be. And while we thought that Beyoncé giving birth to their twins might slow things down for a bit, Jay Z has just shared the deets on an album that he’ll be releasing at the end of this month.
A 31-second clip starring Oscar-winning actor Mahershala Ali and Danny Glover, and scored by the new Jay Z track “Adnis,” was posted on Sprint’s YouTube channel last night. “Letter to my dad that I never wrote,” the father of three raps in the teaser. “Speeches I prepared that I never spoke. Words on a paper that I never read.”
The album, titled 4:44, is set to be released in just under two weeks on June 30. (Jay Z clearly shares Beyoncé’s affinity for quick album drops.)
While Sprint’s account may seem an unlikely place for the album to be announced, the video isn’t merely a space to announce Jay Z’s new album. The clip also shares that Sprint will be partnering with Tidal to offer a free six-month subscription for Tidal HiFi to its new customers. Tidal HiFi typically runs at $19.99 a month — which comes to a savings of $120 for new Sprint customers.
If this “Adnis” clip is any indication, the album is bound to be star-studded. The full visual for 4:44 is set to star Lupita Nyong’o alongside Glover and Ali. In the past, Jay Z has worked with the likes of Kanye West, Justin Timberlake, Frank Ocean, Drake, Rihanna, and, of course, Beyoncé.
